Custom cabinets in Calabasas & Hidden Hills
Calabasas and Hidden Hills are mostly large newer homes behind gates, set in hot, dry inland canyons. We design cabinetry for both conditions.

Behind the gates
The western end of the San Fernando Valley, where Calabasas and Hidden Hills sit along the 101, is largely made up of gated communities. Hidden Hills is a small city that is gated as a whole, with residents and visitors entering through guarded gates. In Calabasas, The Oaks is guard-gated, and several other communities have their own gates and associations. Calabasas Park Estates, the neighborhoods around the Calabasas Country Club and the homes of Mulholland Heights round out the mix.
Gates affect how a cabinet project runs. Every visit and delivery goes through the gate list, associations set contractor hours and parking rules, and larger deliveries are scheduled with the community in advance.
Large newer homes, ready for custom work
Most homes here were built in the past few decades, and many are big: open kitchens, two-story family rooms, primary suites with large closets and three-car garages. Many were finished with builder-grade or semi-custom cabinets that no longer suit the owners. Common projects:
- Kitchens. Replacing mid-grade raised-panel cabinets with flat or shaker doors in oak or walnut, adding a larger island, panel-ready appliances and a pantry wall.
- Dressing rooms. Turning big walk-in closets into dressing rooms with an island, lit display and storage for each person.
- Garages. Full cabinet walls, workbenches and overhead storage, specified for heat.
- Pool and outdoor living. Bar and beverage cabinetry near doors that open to the pool and outdoor kitchen.
Hidden Hills and horse country
Hidden Hills began as a ranch-style community, and many properties still have horses, barns and access to bridle trails. That brings practical needs: a tack room or boot room near the garage, a mudroom for riding gear and dirt, and laundry space that handles more than the usual load. The ranch-style architecture also suits warm finishes: stained oak, painted shaker doors and paneled walls. Gear storage near a working barn also takes more abuse than a kitchen, so we use durable finishes, sturdy hardware and toe-kicks that can be wiped down.
Built for inland heat, not the coast
Calabasas and Hidden Hills sit inland from the ocean, behind the Santa Monica Mountains. They get hotter summers and dry Santa Ana winds rather than marine-layer moisture.
- Dry air. Low humidity makes solid wood shrink. We build large doors on stable veneered cores and finish every surface so the wood moves evenly.
- Sun and heat. West-facing rooms and garages take strong sun. We choose finishes that resist fading and specify garage cabinets for temperature swings.
- Dust. Dry canyon wind carries dust indoors, especially near open doors to the pool. Closed storage with tight reveals and matte finishes that do not show every particle make daily cleaning easier.

Can you get through the gates at The Oaks or Hidden Hills?
Yes, with your help. Add us to your gate list for the design visit and each delivery day, and tell us about any contractor hours, vehicle rules or parking limits your association sets.
How does inland heat affect cabinets here?
Summer heat and very dry Santa Ana winds pull moisture out of wood, which can open joints and warp large doors. We build big panels on stable cores, finish every surface and choose finishes that hold up in sunny rooms.
Can you replace the cabinets in a newer builder-finished home without moving walls?
Usually yes. We build to the existing measurements, so new cabinets can sit in the same footprint and keep plumbing and electrical where they are, or we can change the layout if you want a larger island or pantry.
Do you build for barns or tack rooms on Hidden Hills properties?
We build cabinetry for tack rooms, boot rooms and mudrooms attached to the house or garage. Tell us how you use the space and we will plan storage for saddles, gear and cleaning supplies.
