Custom cabinets in Laguna Beach
Laguna homes are rarely square, rarely flat and rarely like the house next door. We build cabinetry to the room you actually have, in the character the house already carries.

Small, sloped and one of a kind
Laguna Beach was hemmed in early by the San Joaquin Hills and the ocean, and its houses climb whatever ground was left. Lots in North Laguna and the streets above Coast Highway are often small and steep. Up in Top of the World or down in Bluebird Canyon, homes step with the hillside, rooms sit at half-levels and walls meet at angles a stock cabinet line never planned for.
That makes custom cabinetry less a luxury here than a practical answer. A few of the problems we design around:
- Irregular rooms. Out-of-square walls and sloped ceilings are measured and drawn, then built as single runs that scribe tight to the room.
- Small footprints. In a cottage kitchen a few extra inches of drawer depth, a full-height pantry or a corner that actually opens can change the whole room.
- View walls. Many Laguna homes give their best wall to glass, so storage moves into islands, low runs and tall cabinets on the walls that are left.
A town that cares how things look
Laguna has been an artists’ town since the early 1900s, and the Festival of Arts and the Laguna Art Museum keep that culture visible. The houses reflect it: early board-and-batten cottages, mid-century hillside designs and owner-built oddities sit on the same block. Homeowners here often bring a point of view, a collection to display or an old house they don’t want to erase.
We build to that. Doors, panels and finishes come off our own shop floor, so a sculpted feature wall, a record cabinet, open shelving for ceramics or a painted cottage kitchen are all part of the same process. The city’s well-known design review applies mainly to exteriors, so what happens inside is usually yours to decide.
Coastal air, canyon logistics
Homes near the water live in the marine layer, and salt air dulls metal fast. Every face of a cabinet is sealed, not just the fronts, hardware is chosen for coastal exposure, and baths and sink bases get moisture-resistant cores. Canyon homes see the other extreme during Santa Ana winds, when the air turns dry for days at a time, so large doors are built on stable veneered cores that stay flat through both.
Access is the other local factor. Narrow, winding streets, outdoor stairs and limited parking shape how cabinets get into a house, so we size and plan pieces with the route in mind.
The first step in Laguna is the same as anywhere, just more careful: a free visit where we measure every angle, look at how you use the house and come back with drawings and an itemized price.

Do I need Laguna Beach design review to replace my cabinets?
Design review in Laguna focuses on exteriors, and interior cabinet work on its own is generally treated as exempt. A project that qualifies as a major remodel or changes the exterior can be different, so confirm with the city's planning staff or your architect.
My hillside home has almost no square corners. Can custom cabinets still fit?
Yes. We measure each wall and angle on site and build every box to those dimensions, using scribed panels and fillers made to match where walls lean or floors step.
Our street is narrow and steep. How do deliveries work?
Tell us about grades, stairs and parking at the design visit. We plan cabinet sizes and the delivery around how pieces will physically get from the street into the house.
Can you match the character of an older Laguna cottage?
Yes. Because doors and finishes are made in our own shop, we can work toward existing trim profiles, painted finishes or wood tones, or design something that suits the house without copying it.
